When you choose to give, you choose to add value and dignity to someone’s life. Whether you choose to donate to charities that support girls’ education, for people living in poverty or advocate to protect the environment, your one selfless deed can bring a smile to someone’s face and even has the ability to positively change someone’s life forever. Also, when more and more people start donating to charities, a community’s collective response can provide powerful and immediate support to people in need.

In today’s blog, we will be sharing 5 of the many reasons why you should start donating now.

1. DONATE TO HELP SOMEONE IN NEED

Unfortunately, even today, there are millions of children who are homeless. Several women are still being physically and mentally abused by their husbands and families. The elderly are living on the streets or are living alone after being abandoned by their own children. Often these people are helpless and in dire need of essentials.

Your small act of kindness can mean the world to someone like them. You can extend a direct helping hand to someone in need, let’s say by providing a monthly ration to an elderly who lives alone. You can support the education of a girl child.

2. DONATE TO DEVELOP EMPATHY IN YOUR CHILDREN

Data shows that 84% of millennials donated to charities in 2021 in the US. Children learn from the examples around them. The best way to teach a child empathy is to set an example for them. Raise a generation that believes in helping others. As a parent, become your child’s role model. Allow them to witness the good in the world by watching their parents contribute to the betterment of the world they live in. Donate a part of your earnings to help someone in need and teach a lesson of empathy to your children.

If you will show a respectful attitude towards the underserved children,   there is a good chance that your kids will follow in your footsteps and treat other children as equals irrespective of their color, caste, creed, or economic status. Sharing with your children the experience of donating will motivate them to make positive changes in the world from a young age itself. Remember, roots of empathy have the power to tip a generation, to create a world that is kind and resilient. It holds a culture where children learn to care for themselves, for one another, for their world and for their collective future.

3. DONATE TO EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF GIVING

4

The spirit of thanksgiving is in showing gratitude for our good fortune and giving to those who are underserved not just once but throughout the year. Giving back doesn’t always involve spending lots of money. There are a lot of things you can do to contribute in your own humble ways.

One of the ways could be to give away some things that you no longer use but are in good condition to be used by someone else in need. Identify an NGO nearby and give away toys, clothes, utensils, or any other items in your home that can be useful for someone else. Offer your time and volunteer for NGOs’ on-ground work. You can do so by volunteering to teach a child or by spending some time with the elderly. About 25% of adults volunteer their time, skills, and energy to making a difference in the US.

To keep the spirit of thanksgiving alive the whole year, you can also pledge a small monthly donation to the cause you believe in. Your small but continuous donation can enable a girl child to continue her education, can provide nutritious meals to a malnourished child, can put a roof over the head of a homeless elderly, and can support the treatment of a domestic abuse survivor.

4. DONATE TO CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS A BETTER SOCIETY

We often wonder whether our small contribution will make a change at all. What we need to realize is when we make a donation, our money goes into a big pool of donations made by thousands of donors or individuals. Collectively, that money has the power to change several lives.

For example, if you choose to make a small donation to Educate Girls, it takes us a step closer to providing girl children their Right to Education. Your contribution, when combined with the contributions made by other individuals,  supports us to empower girl children to build a better life for themselves.

5. DONATE TO SAVE ON TAX

If you too believe in supporting the education of girl children, you can donate to  Educate Girls and get tax benefits on your donations. We are a 501(c)(3) registered organization. We provide tax-deductible receipts to all our donors for their donations.
